We discussed our pre-reflection thoughts and found many commonalities (interest in building confidence and managing a classroom of individuals in both a firm and kind manner, while building trust between teachers and students) We addressed individual interests and concerns as a group. We focused on finding our own "teacher voice" and held discourse about what this means for each of us. We also discussed what makes a "great student teacher." We journaled about these.
We watched a "virtual guest speaker," Christopher Emdin talk about the "magic" a teacher needs to embody to engage students while presenting. He specifically addressed many of the concerns we mentioned in our pre-reflection surveys and literally "set the stage" for our upcoming student teaching experience which we are so very excited to embark upon soon. We identified our on-site placements and talked about the need to look at more than a school report card. As scholars, we are more than just report cards, too! We'll expand upon this during our next meeting.

We made name tents, completed our conduct forms and pre-reflection. We looked at our website and found the contact page. We played an Instagram "Find Someone Who..." game. We connected via Remind messaging (sending a photo and a bio for the Portfolio page on our website).
We discussed what we loved about the previous reflective seminar in SI1 and learned about half of us are new to the scholars program this year! This is the first SI for many of us! Then, we made mini-sculptures (posted to our portfolio page) which exemplify a teacher trait (we looked at the "guest speakers" topics on the activities page for inspiration) or an educational issue about which we are passionate. We each introduced ourselves and spoke about what this word means to us specifically. These inspired us to talk about many early childhood considerations (working with and caring for families, teaching, the whole child, working in various school settings, approaches to early education, and more)! Finally, we made a circle and played the Name Game and an About Me game to get to know each other a little more. More to come... Our group is amazing : ) |
